UN Experts Condemn Israeli Abuses Against Palestinian Women and Girls

The United Nations has raised grave concerns over the treatment of Palestinian women and girls in the occupied territories, condemning Israel’s escalating actions that are deemed systematic human rights abuses. UN experts, including several from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), emphasize that Israeli policies continue to expose Palestinian women to heightened violence, instability, and economic hardship, creating profound and far-reaching impacts on their lives.

The UN report outlines abuses that include arbitrary arrests, physical harm, and psychological trauma, exacerbated by the continued expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian land. The restrictions on movement, limited access to essential services, and threats to education and employment opportunities further contribute to the deteriorating conditions. These constraints have particularly acute consequences for Palestinian women, who face increasing barriers to achieving basic human rights and social stability.

The experts highlighted the severe repercussions of these policies on Palestinian children, especially girls. The daily realities of military occupation—marked by the presence of armed checkpoints and house demolitions—disrupt their access to education and healthcare, threatening long-term development and well-being. As a result, Palestinian girls are often left vulnerable to forced displacement, limited educational opportunities, and an elevated risk of early marriage due to the ongoing instability.

According to the report, Israeli actions violate numerous international laws, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. The OHCHR experts called for immediate international action to prevent further deterioration, urging the global community to hold Israel accountable for these systemic abuses.

The report underscores the urgent need for a resolution that respects the rights of Palestinian women and girls, ensuring their safety, dignity, and equal access to resources and opportunities. Without decisive international intervention, the UN warns that the situation may continue to escalate, further compromising the lives of countless Palestinian women and their families.
